Activist, Kenya
When I joined the funding circle, I was not sure what to expect. I was very hesitant because of the risks that come with LGBTQ activism in my country. Not only did I find a community of people with similar aspirations for the community, but I have received technical and financial support for my work that would ordinarily not be supported. This is why I feel very privileged to be part of this network. I am able to take more risks with our projects and implement ideas that match the needs in my community, which is very different from other donors who have predetermined areas of funding.
I have become bolder and spoken more publicly about gay rights and the LGBTQ community because I know that I have a community of people who support and believe in my work. I have met incredible activists and have even collaborated in our work. The circle is truly the realest network I am in, I can be myself in our meetings and live my truth.

As a young person, there are many legal barriers to get funding from foreign organizations, but the funding circle is easy, fast, and enables youth activists to initiate their projects without any problem.
I have been a member of the circle since its beginning and have received funding several times. The funding circle means that young people do not stop their activism because they lack financial support.
The most rewarding part of the circle is to be connected with the donors and youth activists around the world. I consider the funding circle to be a family where we all try to help each other.

When I found out about the funding circle I jumped at the chance to be involved. It’s given me purpose and made me feel like I’m contributing towards something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I’ve really enjoyed meeting new people through the circle, especially the activists from so many different countries who do such amazing work. I value being part of an initiative where I am directly involved, and get to know everyone else involved too – I have learnt so much from the other members. It’s been a real source of positivity in the past couple of years and I hope to stay part of it for a very long time.
