There are a few ways of getting involved with our funding circle.
We’re trying to build relationships as a community, not establish a supporter base and mailing list. So whichever way you choose to get involved, you’ll play a significant role in what we do.
Our work is important, but it’s done in a fun and engaging way. We celebrate our success too and the victories of the activists in our funding circle.
Become a donor
Donors contribute financially to our shared fund and give time to be involved in the decision making process. Many donors come from the LGBTQ community, and are joined by allies and supporters.
What can you expect by becoming a donor?
- Donors contribute £30-£50 per month into our shared fund. This is a lot of money – we know that – but the situation is urgent.
- Donors are involved in the decision making process. Donors read each application and decide collectively how to distribute the money. Regardless of how much people contribute, all donors have an equal say.
- The minimum commitment we’re seeking is for one calendar year – January to December. Throughout the year, donors commit to attending five meetings – two meetings to make decisions on the applications and three shorter full circle calls (calls with all activists and donors). During Covid-19, all meetings are virtual.
- Donors receive regular updates on the funding circle, the global LGBTQ situation, and the work of the activists in the funding circle.
Become a supporter
Supporters contribute funding to the funding circle, but are not part of the grant decision making. This is a perfect option for those that want to support our work, but with less of a time commitment. There is no minimum contribution (as there is with donors).
What can you expect by becoming a supporter?
- Supporters meet and are better connected to LGBTQ+ activists who are campaigning for rights and freedoms in exceptionally difficult circumstances.
- Supporters receive regular updates on the funding circle, the global LGBTQ+ situation, and the work of the activists in the funding circle.
- Supporters are invited to the full circle virtual meetings.
- Supporters hear how we have used the funding and its impact.
Join our activist network
We support activists and organisers who are working on the frontline to fight for equality. Our funding circle is specifically for youth activists aged 35 years and under.
Activists in our funding circle mostly come from our existing networks or by referral. Our funding is not an open call and we do not accept unsolicited applications.
If you are interested in joining our funding circle, please do get in contact.
What can you expect by joining our funding circle as an activist?
- We make grants of up to £1000. This will be transferred to you personally or to your organisation. We are not a traditional funder. We trust you to know how best to spend the money.
- Activists become part of our network. All activists meet virtually every month to get to know each other, share strategies and give support.
- We fund individuals and organisations. You do not need to be a registered organisation. Members of the funding circle can apply for the funding multiple times.
- We ask you to submit a short, creative and simple application to receive a grant. We will ask for updates – through photos, video or text – on what you did with the money and the difference it made.
- We will never publish details about who we fund.
